Elena Walch married into the wine business in 1985 after having previously been an architect. She believed that wines with more character were the furture, her husband disagreed. They share a winery and staff but have two different philosophys. She aims for higher quality grapes with denser plantings and lower yields. He plants traditionally and buys fruit from many small area farmers. She uses a small percentage of oak to add roundness, he uses stainless steel.
The Gewurtztraminer is probably the best example of the grape in its price range. It is dry and medium bodied with plenty of zip. White fruit, floral, honeysuckle and spice are mirrored on the nose and the palette.
